Disco Jockeying at Wedding Receptions

Thursday, January 13th, 2011

Becoming a DJ has almost become an obsession among youngsters today. With the increasing popularity of music channels and music shows, competition too is increasing. Almost every teenager nowadays “cannot live without music” and would even give up junk food if they could get an extra dose of hip-hop or R&B everyday.

If you too happen to be one of these fanatics, here are a few points you should keep in mind while starting your first venture as a wedding reception  DJ. It is easier to get a job as a wedding DJ, especially now that the wedding season is here. Depending on the wedding budget, it would not only be a good experience, but could also bring  in good money.

  • Meet the bride and groom as early as possible and get to know there music preferences. It is also advisable to know the same about a few close family members (young and old). Choose different genres, but don’t be overly elaborate. Keep in mind that the main, purpose should be to entertain and keep the listeners happy as a wedding reception  DJ.
  • Create a play list including songs including songs of the bride and groom’s choice and some of your own choice. Mingle them well and try to create the perfect wedding feel. Keep in mind that the best wedding ambience is created with a mix of modern and traditional essence.
  • Make sure you pre-arrange the songs and hold a test performance in front of the family members. This way you could easily be able to note their reactions. Make necessary changes as soon as possible if you feel there is room for improvement.
  • Make sure you carry with you proper equipments, that too in good condition. You wouldn’t want to end up spoiling the night with equipments breaking down in the middle of the event, it wouldn’t look good for your DJs for weddings service. Carry a laptop.
  • Make sure you are clear about the payment policy and method. Try to settle these in advance. Discuss your pay according to the hours you will perform. Don’t forget to include extra charges for travel expenses and accommodation, if required. Make sure you sign a proper agreement.

Having said all of this, it is also important to remember that an off-beat career like this also gives the DJ ample scope to have fun while working. The biggest plus point of such a career is enjoyment during work and the ability to make others feel good.

Halloween Parties

Tuesday, October 5th, 2010

Have you ever been to a party that ended up like a deserted ghost town? Here are some ways to have some fun and make your Halloween party a memorable one.

People

The heart and soul of any good party seems so simple yet it is often the most overlooked aspect of planning a party. It’s never too early to start talking up your party. Gather emails, and use the oldest form of advertisement, word of mouth to keep people interested and informed as to when the party is.

Date & Location

Look closely at the calendar, understand that most people have school and other commitments the week of Halloween, so plan accordingly for the best turn out. If this is a house party have a cleaned out garage or basement ready in case of unpredictable weather. Don’t let a little rain spoil your party.

Costumes

Encourage your guests to wear them and prepare a contest where people vote for their favorites. Great accessories can be found in most supermarkets and party shops these days in order to keep the party festive.

Food

Keep it simple. Enjoy your own party don’t stress about what people think of the food if it is simple and tasteful that will satisfy any hungry group and usually costs much less too.  A buffet is probably the best type of food for this kind of party.

Entertainment

If you can possibly afford it then disco hire and DJ hire is money well spent. First make sure that he has some suitable scary music tracks. If you can’t run to this then keep a CD player handy with a Halloween scary song cd.  Or perhaps you might want to have a karaoke machine or hire a candy floss machines to create a real scary party atmosphere. Don’t forget to include some old favourites too like apple bobbing, but have plenty of towels to hand ! Plan ahead if you need to hire any of these items and have them reserved before it is too late.

The best parties are the ones that people feel comfortable at with good people and fun things to do. Don’t try to be too ambitious or outdo the last party you went to. Most importantly it’s about having fun and as the party planner make sure you enjoy the party too!

Wedding Discos & DJ Hire for You and Your Guests Entertainment

Friday, February 26th, 2010

Following on from our recent blog posts about Wedding Bands and Wedding Reception DJs we should move on naturally perhaps to a blog piece about Wedding Discos and how they can have a complete effect on your wedding as a whole.

We all know your wedding day is an important day, it marks the joining of two people in matrimony and it is an exciting but anxious time and for most it’s a step into the rest of their future together. Getting the whole day right is vital, however most of your guests will remember mainly the entertainment as that’s where every one of your guests will relax and of course is how your big day ends. Wedding Discos are certainly what some will consider as there’s lots of scope to mould the evening entertainment easily to suit your guests and your tastes.

Wedding discos of course aren’t to everybody’s tastes although they provide a simple solution and options vary hugely. Let’s take a look at some advice that I can offer when having wedding discos as one of your entertainment options:

Positives:

* Music can be moulded into celebrations to suit tastes and themes

* Era’s to be played can be chosen in advance

* DJs can mix the music playlist to suit the dancers on the floor at that time

* Its easy to alter the atmosphere and create a lively dance or a swaying romance theme with the push of a button and a bit of style on the decks

* Guests can request songs and the DJ will most likely have them in his collection

* Ideal choice for low budgets and top end DJs are always playing impressive sets

Negatives:

* Theres a typical wedding discos playlist that some DJs will insist on playing regardless of your theme

* Unless you plan methodically and communicate well there is a chance your DJ will slip into a general set that does not quite suit your requirements

* Bad wedding discos will be remembered longer than well planned and flowing ones

* Not all DJ hire will offer you a good tailored package

In summary the best thing I can tell you is to choose carefully, find providers of wedding discos that can tailor the evening to suit your wedding and not someone else’s. Pick those with good references (and take up some of those references if you can by contacting previous customers). Choose right and meet with your DJ early on so that you can rest assured that your wedding entertainment sits well with your plans and you’ll be left with good lasting memories of your fabulous day.
